GARD is a group of tests for assessing chemical skin sensitizers. The tests make use of genetic biomarkers for more than 200 genes which cover the entire immune reaction and are relevant to predicting the risk of hypersensitivity. The tests have over 90 percent reliability. This compares with the current predominant test method, experiments on mice, which has an accuracy of 70-75 percent. SenzaGen’s tests are also capable of measuring the potency of a substance’s allergenic properties. Life sciences and information technologies have become more and more connected to make patient’s life better; a perfect example on this is SenzaGen’s in vitro safety testing based on genomics. Introduction
The prevalence of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is estimated to >20% in the western world. Not only the individual is affected, but downstream socioeconomic effects are high. To minimize exposure, chemicals must be safety tested. Traditional testing strategies like the murine local lymph node assay (LLNA) comprise animals, but the regulatory authorities, public opinion and economic interests require animal-free models. The Genomic Allergen Rapid Detection skin (GARDskin) is an in vitro assay addressing this need. Here, we present the results of the GARDskin ring trial (OECD TGP 4.106) for validity of the assay.

A blinded ring trial was performed to assess the functionality of the GARDskin assay. The data demonstrates that GARDskin is a powerful tool for assessment of chemical skin sensitizers, with a predictive accuracy of 94% and excellent reproducibility between laboratories.

Lund, den 7 Mars, 2018 – SenzaGen (Nasdaq First North: SENZA) meddelar idag att företaget har tecknat ett strategiskt viktigt licensavtal med Burleson Research Technologies Inc. (BRT). BRT kommer som första licenstagare i USA att marknadsföra och tillhandahålla GARD™ och utföra testet i sitt laboratorium i North Carolina. BRT blir således det första amerikanska laboratoriet som erbjuder GARD™, ett genombaserat test som med högre noggrannhet än andra tillgängliga testmetoder ger kunderna viktig säkerhetsinformation om risken att kemiska ämnen orsakar allergier hos människor.

Burleson Research Technologies, Inc. (BRT) är en USA-baserad kontraktsforskningsorganisation (CRO), specialiserad på immunotoxikologi. Företaget är en viktig leverantör av säkerhetstestning av kemikalier för kosmetika- och kemiindustrin och deltar i pågående nationella program för att analysera och validera olika alternativa metoder som möjliggör minskad användning av djur vid säkerhetstestning av kemikalier. BRT deltog i den framgångsrika så kallade ”ring trial” vilken genomfördes som ett led i den regulatoriska valideringen av GARDskin™. Denna studie slutfördes under hösten 2017 och resultaten visar att testet med en noggrannhet på 93,8% kan avgöra om kemiska ämnen riskerar att orsaka allergier. Detta bevisar att GARDskin™ överträffar alla nuvarande tillgängliga validerade metoder och var avgörande i licensavtalet med BRL.

Enligt villkoren i avtalet kommer BRT omedelbart att inkludera GARDskin™ och GARDpotency™ som en ledande del av sina säkerhetsbedömningar till kunder inom kosmetika, kemikalie- och läkemedelsindustrin världen över men huvudsakligen i USA.

“Detta nya licensavtal med ett högt respekterat amerikanskt CRO är ett första viktigt steg i arbetet för att kunna erbjuda GARD på en bredare marknad i USA, och är avgörande för att möta de amerikanska kundernas efterfrågan genom lokala tjänsteleverantörer. Lund, March 7, 2018 – SenzaGen (Nasdaq First North: SENZA) announces today that the company has signed a strategically important license agreement with the well renowned Burleson Research Technologies Inc. (BRT). BRT will market and provide GARD™ in the US and perform the test in its laboratory in North Carolina. BRT is the first US laboratory to offer GARD™, which displays a higher accuracy than other available test methods and reveals if chemical substances are causing allergies in humans.

Burleson Research Technologies, Inc. (BRT) is a contract research organisation (CRO) in the US, specializing in immunotoxicology. The company is an important supplier of chemical safety testing for the cosmetic and chemical industries and participates in ongoing programs to analyse and validate alternative methods, aiming at reducing the use of animals in chemical testing. BRT was part of the successful ring trial in the validation of GARDskin™ which was completed in the autumn of 2017 and showed the unsurpassed accuracy of 93.8%.

Under the terms of the agreement, BRT will immediately include GARDskin™ and GARDpotency™ as a leading part of its chemical safety testing services to clients in the cosmetic, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries worldwide.

Lund, March 7, 2018 – SenzaGen (Nasdaq First North: SENZA) today announced that the company has recruited Dr Gunilla Grundström as its new Chief Scientific Officer. She has more than 10 years of commercial experience in the pharmaceutical and medical technology industry and comes most recently from a position as Senior Research Manager at Baxter.

Gunilla Grundström holds a Masters degree from Lund University and has a Ph.D. in medical biochemistry. She has previously held senior positions within AstraZeneca’s and Gambro’s research organizations, and since 2013 she has been Senior Research Manager at Baxter in Lund. In her role as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) she will be responsible for SenzaGen’s long-term development strategy and product portfolio.

“Gunilla has a solid scientific background, many years’ experience in managing complex research and development projects and an excellent understanding of the customer needs that we strive to satisfy. I look forward to her contribution towards the development of new products based on our unique technology platform GARD,” says SenzaGen’s CEO, Anki Malmborg Hager.

Gunilla Grundström takes up her position at SenzaGen on 1st May 2018. She succeeds Henrik Appelgren, who for personal reasons is moving to a part-time role in the company focusing on regulatory issues.

Gunilla Grundström har en civilingenjörsexamen från Lunds universitet och är disputerad inom medicinsk biokemi. Hon har tidigare innehaft seniora befattningar inom AstraZenecas och Gambros forskningsorganisationer, och är sedan 2013 Senior Research Manager vid Baxters anläggning i Lund. I sin roll som Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) kommer hon ansvara för SenzaGens långsiktiga utvecklingsstrategi och produktportfölj.
